Jonathan interviewed Amanda Daniels, the founder of Koogar. Please read on to see what he found out!

Amanda Daniels owns and works for Koogar, which is a digital marketing company which specializes in website design and developement. Amanda works with her partner Andy, currently from a home office and the company has been running full time for 9 months, but in total 3 years.

Before Amanda set up her own business, she was a web designer of 7 years, this involved her being part of a team where she was produced insurance websites, working with big clients such as HSBC. Amanda felt that she was starting to lose some of her design and creative skills as these websites had to have strict structures, therefore decided to move away from this and set up her own company to retrieve some of these skills.

Amanda wanted to help other businesses as she felt that companies were getting over charged for websites. Amanda felt that as she had experience working for big companies that she would be able to provide better websites for businesses cost effectively. Amanda prides her self on presentation as she feels that this is key to what she does.

Amanda carried out some graphic design work experience before she moved into employment during schooling and she feels that it “changed her life”, the work experience was for a sign making company and this made her feel like she wanted the same type of freedom of producing work, and she originally wanted to work on billboards.

Amanda networks 2/3 times a week, which helps her to gain new customers and work. She is a member of BNI, which is a business networking organisation that allows people from different sectors within the market to network with each other. Even though BNI is the most expensive networking organisation, Amanda values her chair highly as it had provided her with lots of opportunities for business since she has joined.

Amanda has never taken on a work based learning student before and found out about this opportunity through a friend. She decided on taking on a work placement, as she wants to be able to help students to gain a foothold within the market place, as well as give something back to the students as she can relate back to when she was a student and recognise how competitive it is within the business society.

By taking on this work based learning she wants to be able to build up a good relationship with the student and be able to contribute to producing good work which can help to provide Amanda with what she needs, which is to have case studies from companies she has worked with so she can market her own business, Koogar.

These case studies will be presented on the new website Amanda will be designing for her own company.

She feels the website which is active now is in need of restructure as Koogar now offer more service than which are stated on the current website.

When asked were she sees her company going in the future she said she would like to own her own premises and have no more than 5 members of staff working for her, these would include herself and Andy as well as a website and graphic designer, and a marketer. She feels this would allow her to take on more work as she could be out finding business as the work is being produced for other companies, where as now she has to deal with all these on her own.

Koogar will be moving into *NEW offices in Liverpool in 2010, so keep your eyes peeled for more information as we would love for you to pop in to see us!
