I am asked nearly every day the same question…
“What would you do in my business to market it and get new clients?“
Unfortunately, the answer is different for every business, there is no blueprint to marketing. There are blueprints on HOW to do something but not on marketing as a whole.
As a business owner, you know your business more than anyone else, you understand how you want to be perceived and the type of clients you want. Think about these things and be where the clients you want are!
If you’ve not done marketing for a while or are a little stuck with regards to what to do next, this podcast is for you!
Grab your pen, notepad and be prepared to pause this podcast as there are a number of things you need to be doing during and certainly after!
I know I have already mentioned the importance of following up with a client or potential client after networking with them, but I must stress just how important it is as most people only start really taking notice of you after several attempts of follow ups.
Have you ever met someone at a networking event or through a referral that says they need one of your services, but when you try to contact them to arrange a meeting they are extremely difficult to get hold of or don’t get back to you?
Well here’s why…
Although these people do want your services, they too are extremely busy in their line of work and although it can be frustrating, you need to keep contacting them to book in that meeting and even after the meeting you should give them a call to go over what was discussed in the meeting and the steps to take from there.
We always follow up via an email after a networking event, but if we need to book a meeting with someone then we will ring them. If we haven’t heard anything, we will email them the following week and then ring them the week after that and so on.
Remember, you don’t want to hassle people, but give them a gentle reminder that you’re still there. After all, they are the ones who approached you for your services!
Here’s a marketing tip you should do with every potential client and existing ones…Follow Up!
It’s amazing how valued a person feels if you take the time to ring them or email them about a product they have just purchased or service you provided for them. Here’s a little known fact about sales – the majority of sales take place after the third or fourth contact. So if you ring a client back and get the answering machine or receive no reply to your email do not simply give up as you will be throwing away a good opportunity to sell your company!
We make sure that after each networking event we attend we send an email to people we have spoken with as a further introduction and to remind them of who we are and what we do. Similarly, whenever we have met with a client and given them a quote and proposal we will get in touch with them a week later to ensure that they understand and are happy with everything we have outlined.
