Matt’s Diary : Week 7 – The Comic Strip

Wednesday

Today I was pleased  to complete the last stages of the images were Miss Koogar is modelling the new company t-shirt. I added a few extra folds into the t-shirt to express the heavy fabric in the images. The dark tones were added to the t-shirts, which gave Miss Koogar her full figure back and emphasized the direction that the body faces in each pose. After that, I made the final adjustments to Koogar; firming up the line and checked her top to tail for any flaws and inconsistencies.

I used the remainder of the day to begin working on the new comic strip project. I gathered a large amount of refernce material for the new project and drafted out a few ideas on paper.

Thursday

Today I continued working on the comic strip project, doing it the old-fashioned way with a pad and pencil. I drew a collection of frames for comic strip that depicted scenes involving the interactions between Koogar and their clients. I styled this initial group of frames to be nondescript and minimal for functional purposes. The images in the comic strip strictly  focus on the actions and gestures made by the characters, hence the minimal detailing. As the Koogar comic strip project progresses more groups frames will be produced which may be significantly more detailed.

Laura’s Diary: Day 16 – Its official!

Today has been an extremely exciting day, for me especially as my first real marketing for Koogar is now available for the world to see!  Koogar is now officially one of Merseyside ACME’s featured businesses!  So to celebrate Koogar’s achievement I’d like everyone to go to ACME’s website and have a look!

http://www.merseysideacme.com/external/featuredbusiness.asp?business=68

There’s more exciting news to come as I told you earlier; Amanda has won the Premier Membership on My Business eZine which means Koogar can advertise a service or new campaign every month as well as a whole list of other exciting opportunities.  As our account is currently being set up I will let you know when Koogar and its offers can be seen on their website.

I have been tidying up a few loose ends throughout the rest of the day, updating my marketing tips as well as making a start on some press releases for Koogar.  Well that was throughout the morning and early part of the afternoon so it’s really nice to finish the day on a high!

Laura’s Diary: Day 15 – Inspiring day

Today (well yesterday now) was a really fun day.  Amanda was doing a talk on networking at an Enterprise UK (Take Control Today) event at Chester Races for entrepreneurs both starting out and ones who have been going for a few years.

The event itself was well organised and they had 6 different seminars on throughout the day.  I didn’t attend Amanda’s seminar as there was one about Marketing and PR which clashed and as it’s my responsibility to market Koogar I thought this was the right option.  However, Amanda’s talk went down well from people I spoke to later on.

It was great to see so many people turn up who want to start their own business and the whole day was extremely inspiring – the location wasn’t half bad either!

Matt’s Diary : Week 6 – New Pose, new clothes

Wednesday

I  finished off putting the tonal work and shading on the “45 degree pose” of MissKoogar as well as:

  • improved the line
  • added some more folds in the trousers
  • drew new image of a new head using the to fit the angle of her body and recycled all the effects and fill layers to adapt them to the to new composition.

Friday

I drew a Koogar in a new pose facing away format the camera. The new image shows her wearing a casual black t-shirt instend of the white shirt she has previously been seen in. The new pose was also created to display a design on the reverse of the MissKoogar t-shirts. Its been modified using some of the older images of MissKoogar, changing her shirt for the and adding the new black MissKoogar t-shirt in its place.

Laura’s Diary: Day 14 – Marketing by the minute

Today has been a great day for marketing Koogar!  I have sent off a profile of Koogar to become a featured business on a Merseyside business forum.  I have also sent off some details about Koogar’s new office to a north-west group who are going to put it on their website to inform businesses around the Northwest of who we are and, of course, that we’ve moved!

As well as this we have also launched our “If I had a pound…” campaign after a meeting this morning with Nugent Care – Koogar’s Charity of the Year.  So have a look at it as it’s a great offer and also helps our charity.

The tickets are now available for our Marketing Forum event that we are co-hosting with Azzure Marketing and it promises to be a well informed morning and definitely worth coming along to as it is completely FREE!

Throughout the latter part of the afternoon I have been working on some new blogs that will be available on the website next week.  There are some general ones and also more specific ones such as moving into a new office, which many people are doing or thinking of doing at the moment, so that has some useful tips in it.

Well I’ve been busy today putting things live on the website so there’s a lot to check out – hope you enjoy it!

Laura’s Diary: Day 13 – Busy, busy, busy…

I’ve had another exciting day at the office that has once again seen me doing several different things.  I started off the day by finalising the details of a one off marketing forum event, which Amanda is co-hosting.  It aims to tell people the what, how and when of marketing- helping to boost people’s confidence upon hearing the dreaded word…Marketing!

I also managed to complete a set of instructions as to how one uses Wordpress, which is the software you can use to update posts, create pages amongst many other things on your website.  I’m quite proud of my set of instructions, as I have only recently got to grips with the software myself and think I have done a detailed job, which will hopefully benefit people in the future.

I have been manically researching and typing away at my ever growing list of Marketing Tips and have added the third tip to the website so feel free to take a look at it and thanks to those who commented on last week’s tip about networking.  I’m glad you all found it useful.

I then took a long lunch, which by 1 o’clock was definitely needed as my stomach kept reminding me!  During the last few hours of the afternoon I have been creating a ticket invitation for the Marketing Forum event, which will be available from Wednesday onwards and is definitely worth having a look at!

I have also been busy creating a few varying Press Releases and Featured Business articles which I intend to use to promote Koogar over different medias in the next few weeks as we have several new campaigns that we need to promote and will be on the website asap as I know they will be of great benefit to a number of you!

So it looks like Wednesday is going to be a busy day with lots going up on the website so I’ll be sure to keep you all updated so until then…try using our marketing tip of the day and see if it helps boost sales!

Matt’s Diary : Week 5 – New Pose

Wednesday

I created the Koogar twitter bird and gave it a round, bulbous form with a large head to make it look cute. I completed the image to the bird today, the Miss Koogar images took a lot longer to design, produce and render, so I was pleased to have this done. I worked a quite a lot on colour matching especially on the various layers I had imported from previous images, finding equivalent tones which gel together.

It was decided that Koogar’s eyes needed to change from green to blue I colour matched the eye layers and adjust the Hue/Saturation levels accordingly. Blue eyes are better suited to the Koogar brand. Amanda thought the blue eyes were  looking a little too much of a dark shade so I softened the colours and the contrast to make the eyes appear brighter.

Friday

I created another image of Koogar  in a new pose this week. She is standing at a forty-five degree angle and pointing to her right. She still needs the dark tones and shading added but the image is coming along nicely. I have taken a couple of parts from previous images of Koogar which are different sizes, so this new image needed to have a lot of thew pieces resized. The image will prove useful when the Miss Koogar character is acting as a guide on the web site, directing viewers where to go and what to do.

Thanks for reading, Matt.

Laura’s Diary: Day 12 – What A Day!

Today has been an extremely busy day for both myself and Amanda, which wasn’t made any easier by the internet going down for the best part of an hour- stalling our work focus temporarily.

However, once it was up and running again I was able to crack on with my extensive list of tasks.  I started by doing a summary blog for MyWirralHub’s speed networking event on Monday and I’m pleased to say that it went swimmingly and raised £80 for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation so well done to everyone who turned up and to Geoffrey, who delivered an enlightening talk about success!

I then created an email invite ready for when Amanda officially takes over as Chair for CEPN Business Forum, which is a huge job and responsibility, but great that Amanda was chosen so congratulations to her and good luck! (Although I’m sure Amanda won’t need any of this)!

I have updated the MyWirralHub website with two of the upcoming events and created the tickets for you to book online now.  Both events sound promising and worthwhile with two great speakers getting involved so definitely worth attending.  Unfortunately, we don’t know in enough detail what each speaker will be talking about, but don’t worry, once we’ve discussed it further we’ll let you know by updating the website.

I have also created some new pages on the CEPN website; AGM- what is it and Facebook & LinkedIn- what are they and how can they benefit your business, so for anyone involved in the CEPN forum or interested in it check out the website below where I’m sure you’ll find some great tips and useful business info!

http://www.cepnforum.org.uk

Finally, I have been working on an instruction/ training booklet for future users of the CEPN website (and probably anyone in the future who will be updating either Koogar, MyWirralHub or CEPN’s websites), which is proving to be a bigger task than at first anticipated.  However, I have managed to get half of it done today and will hopefully finish it by next week so it’s ready to go at Amanda’s first official meeting as Chair of CEPN Business Forum.

I have just about got enough time to post this up on the website before my day officially ends so hope you’ve enjoyed it and keep an eye out for updates on the May & June MyWirralHub networking events!

Laura’s Diary: Day 11 – New events, networking, marketing tips & more!

I have done quite a lot of writing today and creating the wording for different event notifications- so have thoroughly enjoyed myself!

A New Upcoming Networking Event!

I started off the day by creating an email invite and the follow up website wording for a new networking event that Koogar and Azzure Marketing ( http://www.azzuremktg.co.uk/)  are organising for the near future.  The event is aiming to outline marketing and its importance within a business as well as getting people to welcome the idea of marketing instead of flinching from the mere mention of it!

After an hour or so of creating a couple of drafts and then typing it up I set my mind to proofreading the MyWirralHub website as a couple of people have mentioned there were spelling mistakes- I had a look and found two.  I re-worded parts of it and added parts to bulk it up a bit more and try and explain the idea behind some of the decisions, which I hope you find helpful next time you visit the website.

Networking!

Today is Monday…which means it’s the second instalment of Koogar’s new feature- Marketing Tips.  Today’s tip is all about networking and how important it is for any business, old and new.  Having been to a networking event with Koogar I have seen first hand how effective it can be for generating new business.  I have also included a few important hints concerning networking events as they differ greatly.  However, don’t just think you have to network at these specific events.  You can network virtually anywhere.  I knew a girl who wanted to move to Canada and work for a large company over there but had no clue where to start.  Then one day she got talking to a woman at the bus stop whose daughter was Chief Executive of the company she wanted to work for and she was immediately given the necessary contact details!  I’m not saying every old lady at a bus stop will be able to help you with a job or generate thousands of pounds of business for you, but it just shows, you never know who you might get talking to…

As I’m on the subject of networking I should mention that tonight I am going to one of the My Wirral Hub networking events in Neston which promises to be a huge success as 30 people have indicated they will be attending!  I can’t wait as I’ve seen how much organisation Amanda, Lucy and Ida put into the events and now I’ll be able to see how they actually function.  It’s still not too late to show up, just have a look at the website for more details www.mywirralhub.co.uk and remember a buffet is being provided and it’s £5 to get in, but all of this is going to The Roy Castle Foundation.

For the remainder of the afternoon I have been re-writing a featured business article for Koogar as we are trying to get featured in a number of publications.  I completed one a few weeks ago and have just, in the last 10-15 minutes, completed the second- leaving me two more to do over the next week or so!  So I’m going to get back to typing up the second version as I only have half an hour left in the office!

Don’t forget to check out the new Marketing Tip- it should prove very useful if you’re not already doing it so…enjoy!

Matt’s Diary : Day 9 – MissKoogar is now finished!

Today I made some alterations to Koogar’s new clothes, making them a little baggier here and there and added in little more detail.

The cats now have a shadows!  To stick the shadows onto Koogar images I outlined the figures with the selection tool and filled the area with a medium grey. I grabbed hold of the layer with the transform tool and slanted the shadow area to the left, then reduced it’s height. It now looks like Koogar’s shadow is on the floor  where  it should be and not standing behind her like ghoul.

After the images were both were finished and complete I added a 9pt stroke around the outer line of each figure. I copied all of visible layers, rasterized and flattened them into one, so I could add one continuous line around them as a unified composition.

The Koogar twitter bird has begun to take shape on computer now has wings, a body, a tail and a Koogar style head. The Koogar twitter bird is cross between a cougar-cat (Koogar) and a blue bird (which is the Twitter logo). I it’s looking quite cute so far and I hope Amanda and Andy will like it too!
