2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing: Keep learning

Keep learning…

by attending seminars, workshops and talks from people in the same industry as you as well as those involved in completely different ones. By attending such events you’ll increase your knowledge and keep on top of changes within your industry. However, you don’t just have to attend talks focused on your industry, it can be fun and worthwhile attending a talk on a subject you know nothing about or would like to know more on- a subject completely unrelated to your business.

We love to learn and attend seminars, workshops and talks whenever possible. Most of our learning is centred around business development and marketing- areas we are involved with.

However, we do occasionally attend talks on subjects that sound interesting and exciting such as how to network and reading people’s mannerisms. So, the likelihood is that you’ll probably see us at a variety of talks and workshops as they are great opportunities to learn new things and increase your confidence too.

It’s always good to try and learn something new each day, if this is something you’d like to do too then check out our weekly Marketing Tips.

Remember, learning new things will make you more confident and confidence can only help your businesses wellbeing.

2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing: Take notice of your business

Take notice…

of your business and everything involved within it. By taking notice of your products, services, business and marketing plans you’ll be better able to evaluate your business when the time arises, whenever that may be; hopefully once a year at least.

It may seem insignificant, but if you regularly check to see how a product is selling or how successful an email campaign is and so on then you can make sound judgements throughout the year and make the changes when they count, rather than deciding your marketing for a product isn’t the right move a year after it started. Taking notice of your business will help to develop it and save you money.

We regularly check our marketing and new services to see whether they’re working. Not only that, but we also hold regular meetings to discuss how we can improve our services, brand and the business itself. It is through these meetings that we actually come up with and then proceed with a lot of our ideas, which is why we always have something new going on.

If we never took the time to look at the smaller details of our business we would never have the time, energy or resources to proceed with the big ideas.

Taking notice of your products, services and business will help you evaluate what really matters, improving your business wellbeing.

Be sure to wrap up warm as Friday 8th October is Byte Night!

Byte Night is an annual sleep out by members of the IT industry to support Action for Children; a charity helping to keep children and young adults off the streets.

Each year, supporters spend 1 night out on the streets, exposed to the elements to raise both money and awareness for Action for Children.

12 years ago 30 individuals from the IT industry slept out and raised £35,000. The event has grown tremendously since then to over 700 sleepers raising almost £550,000 in 2009 alone. Sleepers, sponsors and patrons of the event include anyone and everyone from the IT industry from marketers and developers to celebrities and leading figures and many many more.

They are still looking for people to take part or to sponsor someone taking part in the event or to make a donation so if this sounds like something you’d be interested in, be sure to check out their website.

2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing: Be active in getting your clients

Be active…

in getting your clients. Don’t sit around the office waiting for clients to come to you, get out there and find them. Take a walk and introduce yourself to your business neighbours, skip between networking events and make people aware of who you and your business are.

We are very active when it comes to potential, new and existing clients. Firstly we network to meet potential clients and get our name and faces out there at the same time. Secondly we travel to see our clients for meetings or to see how their business is developing.

Now although most of this travel is done via transport and still, therefore, involving sitting around, but in a different environment, we still walk to and from train stations and can, on occasion, be seen walking the streets of Liverpool with roller banner and laptop in hand.

The point is that we don’t just wait for the phone to ring or rely on referrals and word of mouth; we get out there and actively seek out our clients.

Remember, being active makes you feel good as it releases ‘happy’ hormones, positively affecting the wellbeing of your business. So at least when you leave the office to seek out potential clients you’ll have a smile on your face!

2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing: Connect with fellow businesses

OK, here’s our first blog about Health & Wellbeing within your business!  Be sure to look out for the 4 to follow and remember to give them a go and see how it helps improve your business.

Connect…

with business people around you, from people in the same industry as you to people in completely different lines of work to yourself.  By networking you are building your connections, who will be there to support you in your business needs, whether that’s through referrals, answering any queries you may have on an unfamiliar topic or simply offering you advice.

We connect with businesses regularly by networking, at least twice a week.  By building our connections we not only help others, as we have connections across industries, but we also help ourselves in being supported.

Our network offers us a mountain of support by recommending us and simply talking about us, informing us of upcoming events we would be interested in and offering us advice when we struggle with something we’re not familiar with.  We owe a lot to our network of connections as business-life without them would be incredibly difficult.

Believe it or not it is possible to network everyday without having to leave your office.  Make use of the social media that is available and take a few minutes out of your day to connect with people.

By networking you are building your connections with people and businesses.  These connections will act as a support for you and your business everyday, helping to improve your business wellbeing.

So, give it a go and feel free to comment about whther you’ve noticed any improvements in your business or in yourself.

8th September: International Literacy Day

Did you know that, now, 4 billion people are literate.  However, there are almost 7 billion people in the world today, which leaves a staggering figure of illiterate people in the world.

International Literacy Day has been celebrated on the 8th September every year since 1946 to raise awareness of literacy and its importance around the world.

If you have any stories of how you have used the power of words to successfully communicate with your clients please contact us.  Similarly, if you have any examples of using words or language that was ineffective i.e. annoyed your client or created a misunderstanding between you then feel free to contact us.

We use words every day, but just how well are we using them and can we improve?

2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing in Liverpool: But how does this affect your business?

2010 is the Year of Health and Wellbeing in Liverpool.  To celebrate, Liverpool is providing many community and health opportunities to show people those small changes can make a big difference in your life.

The Foresight project Mental Capital and Wellbeing published in October 2008 conducted a tremendous amount of research and as a result came up with 5 ways to improve your wellbeing; connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.  If built into your daily routine these 5 small changes can increase your life span by 7.5 years!

So, if making such small health changes in your daily routine can add years to your life imagine what 5 small changes in your daily work routine could do for your business…

We have created our own business-style wellbeing changes to contribute to Liverpool’s 2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing.  Over the next several months, up until the end of 2010, we will be blogging about each of the 5 ways to improve your business wellbeing.

Until then check out the actual 5 ways of improving your health and wellbeing and the different events being held around Liverpool.

How great leaders inspire action

Over the weekend I watched this video clip, I’m not sure how it came to me but was instantly inspired by it and I wrote the following:

WHY
The reason Koogar was born was because we found that business owners where being misled by people who claimed to be “web designers”, but in actual fact they had no idea about the Internet industry and had never worked for an organisation.

We wanted to give people the on-line presence they deserve as well as get them the results they want.

We also wanted people to understand about the Internet and not feel baffled by it or the people who made their website. Like anything, the Internet is easy its just who you get to explain it to you that makes the difference.

We feel that being a friendly face with no jargon is the best way to get great results and designs that really work.

HOW
The founder of Koogar has been a professional within the Internet/Marketing industry for 11 years and has worked for large organisations during her career.

At Koogar we create a brand and develop it into what you deserve not only for the company but also for your clients. We will sit with you to understand where you are and where you want to be to help you achieve the results you want from business.

Not only do we do this by creating websites but we can help in all aspects of Marketing and if we can’t help you, we know someone who is reliable who can.

WHAT
We create customised marketing packages to suit the needs of your business and the needs of your clients!

Do you want to buy one?

To find out why I did this I would suggest you watch the clip by Simon Sinek.

Remember this was done on a Sunday afternoon…

We would love to hear what you think of the video clip and if it has inspired you.

Are you up for the challenge?

Design every day is a challenge that has been set by Smashing Magazine and Koogar is taking up the challenge. We have compiled a list of different subjects, features and layouts we are going to create during each month in 2010 and would like your support and guidance of what you would like to see.

Amanda would like to get her drawing skills back and wants to use this opportunity to do so. “Designing something everyday will help my hand get used to using a pencil/pen again. Working with computers everyday means I don’t use these tools on a daily basis any more and sometimes get cramp when I do use them.

This opportunity is also a great way to get new ideas down not just for me but for our clients and others too.

So please bear with me while my drawing skills get back to what they used to be…”

In January we have decided to design whatever comes to mind… So you will be seeing some random drawings until February, where we have collated a list of things we would like to create.

Each time Koogar designs something, we will be submitting it for everyone to see on www.koogarsox.co.uk. We will be tweeting the design along with #daily365 so that Smashing Magazine will be picking it up.

Please follow the Koogarsox blog for the updates to see what we have been up to…
